Training Programmes

At Science Foundation, training is being imparted by creation of different model projects to demonstrate the technology to the targeted masses viz. NGOs, students and farmers. Some of the demonstration model projects established by the Science Foundation are :

An abandoned open well has been rejuvenated through the implementation of the rain water harvesting project in the office premises. As per the title of the model project, rain water from the part of the terrace area has been diverted to the open well through a network of pipelines and a series of collection, settling and filtration chambers. In a normal monsoon season, about 3,00,000 litres of rain water is being harvested in the well. The well, which is connected to a nearby reservoir, effectively recharges the rain water, which has been evident through the regular water quantity & quality checks.

With a pledge to make the Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited a water secured company, a master plan has been drawn for the management of the storm water and harvesting of the same. A combination of open storage structures and recharge wells with different designs have been planned with the purpose of storing all the rain water within the campus underground and recharging the aquifers.

A ravine waste land, located in the middle of the industrial town and on the banks of River Mini, Nandesari, has been developed and converted into a green belt exhibiting the integrated practices of water management, environment and agriculture. About 15,000 tree saplings of different species have been planted covering roughly 18 acres of undulating land. Storm water harvesting & recharging through a percolation well and plantation have together helped in reclamation of the soil over a period of time. A small medicinal plant garden has also been developed to demonstrate the medicinal importance and usefulness of some of the common plants.

An 80 acres of farm land was used to undertake experimental trials of various agricultural practices i.e. the farm was used mainly to demonstrate the successful of the technologies from the laboratory to land. Seed production of wheat, mustard, paddy, chilies etc. was undertaken. Also, some horticultural & orchards were grown. Further, tissue culture laboratory was also set up to test trial banana and Taiwan papaya verities.

Science Foundation has established this center in The M S University of Baroda, Vadodara to supplement the ongoing work in the area of genome analysis, gene mapping and microbial diversity.

A transgenic verity of rice called Rice Blast has been developed, which a pest resistance variety of the rice.
